Double glazed partitions
Two panes of glass in one frame for much better sound control, with optional blinds between the panes.
Details and guide pricesAn acoustic glass partition is a glass wall specified to meet a stated sound reduction figure, usually given as Rw in decibels, using acoustic laminated glass, sealed joints and attention to the ceiling, floor and door details. The glass is only one part; the junctions decide how well it works on site.
Guide price: £380 to £760 per m² of glazed wall, fitted, ex VAT, depending on the target dB figure.

We start by agreeing what the room needs. A collaboration room next to a quiet area might need around Rw 35 dB; a boardroom or HR room usually needs 40 dB or more. That target sets the glass build-up, whether the wall is single or double glazed, and how the door is sealed.
Sound often travels round a wall rather than through it, over the top through a suspended ceiling void, under raised floors, or along lightweight bulkheads. We flag these flanking paths at survey and can include ceiling barriers or acoustic plenum seals in the quote.

| Glass | Acoustic laminated glass, single or double glazed |
|---|---|
| Typical sound reduction | Rw 35 to 48 dB depending on build-up |
| Seals | Acoustic joint seals, door perimeter and drop seals |
| Junctions | Ceiling void barriers and floor details where needed |
| Evidence | Test data for the system and glass provided with the quote |
| Lead time | Usually 3 to 6 weeks from survey |

Details and guide pricesRw is the weighted sound reduction index, a single laboratory figure in decibels that describes how much airborne sound a wall stops. Higher is better. Each 10 dB is heard as roughly halving the loudness.
As a rough guide, around Rw 35 dB keeps normal speech from being understood next door; 40 to 45 dB suits confidential rooms. We help you set the figure for each room.
Laboratory figures are measured without the gaps, ceiling voids and doors found in a real office. Good junction detailing keeps the on-site result close to the test figure.
Acoustic laminated glass has a special damping interlayer. It is often the same overall thickness as standard laminate but blocks more of the speech frequencies.
